I (this is Kabe) love the holidays! I love the warmth that comes from celebrating the birth of our Savior, from spending time with family, from giving to others, from the beautiful lights, from the love everyone seems to have. I always get way emotional around Christmas time for some reason. I don't know what it is, but I'm pretty sure I tear up at least every other day, if not every! I'm a mess at church, when I talk to Dave about Christmas/life, and I even teared up when I saw a house last Sunday that was decorated with gorgeous lights. David and I saw the movie The Blind Side last week and I bawled thee whole movie! Forget staying dry while I'm visit teaching, or after talking on the phone to family. But the best part about this whole I-can't-control-my-emotions-during-the-holidays thing is that it's all for HAPPY emotion. I LOVE IT! It's embarrassing, but I love it. I hope everyone can take a bit to enjoy the wonderful feelings, reflection, and warmth that encompasses this time of the year. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL!!!!!!! Spoiled

David went to Madison, WI this past week for the World Dairy Expo. He called every night to tell me about all the crazy stuff he'd seen that day. He even recorded a video of the craziness for me to see. I thought I'd share it on here for you all to see! (you can thank me later) Ohhhhh to be a prize winning cow with superior genetics and worth lots and lots of money. And I thought I was spoiled...

In Loving Memory

August has been a hard month! Looking back now, I'm thankful for everything that came about. I really think it's made me evaluate where I'm at with life, and what I need to change to be better. I think when bad things happen, people have a tendency to think like this. But I guess I needed a jumpstart to do better.

It was hard to be away from David while I was in Idaho. He's my best friend! I missed him sooo much! But as I said in my last post, I don't think it was a coincidence that I was home in Idaho when we found out that 3 of our family members from there in Paul had passed away. Tender mercy! What a blessing that I was there and on break from school.
My uncle Ron, and my two cousins, Jed and Jordan, were tragically killed in a plane crash on August 7. What a huge blow to the Mingo family, and everyone who loved them! Of course, memories flooded in for all of us...memories of Uncle Ron teasing us and joking around and how he'd come watch me play b-ball in high school, of Jed telling about his adventures and how he loved flying, of Jordan when he stayed over at our house growing up, his sports records, his cute lit'l family. It really made me grateful for our families. Everyone really pulled together and you could feel the love pouring out to my sweet Aunt Regina, for Jordan's wife Shelley and their 3 kids ranging from 4 yrs to 4 months, and for all the Mingo girls. I can't imagine losing your husband and your 2 sons. I can't imagine losing your husband with 3 little kids at home. I can't imagine losing my dad and my only two brothers! I just can't even imagine, but I know that Heavenly Father must have something really important for them to do on the other side. What a blessing it is to know of the Plan of Salvation, to know that we will see them again!

None of us know what our mission is here on this earth, and we don't know when our time here will be done. I just hope that I can live in a way that I'll be prepared to go, no matter what. These three amazing men were prepared and ready, and I know they're doing amazing things on the other side of the veil. I feel very blessed to have known them, and to have been able to have them as a part of my life. My prayers continue to go out to all the Mingo's and their families. And I appreciate the prayers, love, and words of comfort to my family, too. So please go and give your husband or wife, your kids, your mom and dad, your brothers and sisters a huge hug and tell them you love them! When I finally saw David after all this came about I hugged him harder than I ever have! If you're reading this, then please know how much you also mean to me! Fun July

July was awesome for David and I! David's trip to Idaho, the 4th of July, David's birthday!! It was great. I finished my summer semester, thus ending my first year of the program. YEEHAW! I got 6 weeks off, and it was much needed. We were able to go camping in Colorado again with the Dorsey's and it was a blast. We did some hand fishing in the creek, hiked over to New Mexico, played some mean games of golf, got hooked on Arrested Development, searched for Water Dog Lake (never found it), and ate yummy yummy camp food. We feel so blessed to have such wonderful friends! Man we love camping! I feel so close to my Heavenly Father when I'm up in the mountains, breathing in the fresh air and taking in all the beautiful scenery. It was a great trip.

The weekend after we went camping, the Dayton's came to town! YAY! :) We were sooo excited to have company, even better that it was family. As always, the time flew by. But we loved having them there with us. I think we had a smoothie from Bahama Bucks almost everyday. We shopped, swam, got rained out of EVERYTHING, shot skeet and tried out Dave's new 22, sewed, went puddle jumping, and even went pig hunting. We ended the week going to David's work party at Wonderland, an amusement park here. I even convinced Ky to chop her hair off! It was a great week full of fun and laughs. As a last minute decision, I drove back home to Idaho with my familia because David was headed out to Cali for a work trip the next week. It was sooo great to be home! I'm pretty sure we canned over 50 quarts of green beans one day. It was awesome! I wish we could go home to Paul and Rigby more often to help out, that's for sure. 3 days before I was to fly back to Texas, we found out that my uncle and 2 of my cousins (his 2 sons) had been killed in a plane crash. It was such a blessing for me to be there with family while we all went through that terrible tragedy. It's definitely a comfort to be with the ones you love when something like that happens. HOWEVER, it about killed me to be away from David during all that. I missed him sooo much! I was able to stay another week and thankfully he was able to fly in for the funeral. Not gonna lie, it was really hard for us to go back home to Texas. But we're back and into the swing of things yet again. We can't wait for Christmas to come so we can go visit our family again.
As a side note, at the first of August, I found out I have hyperthyroidism. At first I was really annoyed, and thought yep! Just my luck! But I see now I was looking at it wrongly. I'm sooo glad they found the problem. I was in for a yearly checkup and they randomly found that my thyroid was really enlarged. What a blessing! Things could have gotten so much worse for me before we found the prob, so wow! Thank heavens for good doctors who really care about their patients! It explained a lot of things, and as of my lab work from this week, my medication is working.

Summertime!!!

June found the Sterzer household busy and it's yet again time for me to play catch-up. Gotta love summertime! I'll cut to the chase and give the rundown on all our happenings.

* We planted our garden. :) YAY!
* Had another tornado scare on a volleyball night. They were going to make us play still! There were torando sirens going off, it was raining like crazy, and the sky was green. NOT COOL!! They finally cancelled after we'd driven almost all the way there. I thought we were gonna be like Dorothy in Wizard of Oz and get swept away.
* We visited Dave's sis and her fam in Dallas one final time. They leave in like a week for Germany. We're gonna miss our fellow Texas familia, but we had a great time visiting with them.
* Went to Canton, Texas with the Parker's for our first ever 20 acre flea market. It was awesome! Got me some great flavored vinegar. (I know it sounds weird)
* We replanted our garden. :( Booo!
* David flew to Minnesota & Wisconsin for a work trip.
* Dave was in another golf scramble for work in Lubbock and his team won! Yeehaw! He got a $100 gift certificate to the country club where they played. It was great!
* We finally got a new camera. HALLELUJAH! (I'm singing that like the song)
* Finally went country dancing with some friends. All the people there were cute lit'l old couples. Gotta love it! :)
* We replanted our garden yet again. (yeah, this is getting frustrating. For some reason, our thumbs are brown instead of green this year.)
* My friend Lynsey and I finally launched our company, Duck Pickle Designs. There's a store here in Amarillo carrying our stuff, and a store in Montpelier, ID carrying it also. Needless to say, we've been sewing for hours and hours. But it's been so fun and we're proud of ourselves for how we're doing so far. I'll post picts of our stuff and put a link to our blog later. Yes I know, many of you are probably in shock to think that I sewed something that could be sold. Don't worry, I'm still in shock, too. Lynsey carries the team :)
* David flew to Pennsylvania and New York for work. He's so lucky he gets to see all these new places! (Do I sound jealous? Hmmm. Ok. I admit it. I totally am!)
* Dave also got to fly home to Idaho from NY for his Stokes family reunion and was able to spend the 4th of July with his familia. He had a great time seeing all the fam, especially his grandparents! He spent a day with the Dayton's also, and they celebrated his birthday and my Grammy's. I'm so glad he got to go, but holy cow it was thee longest week EVER! I missed him terribly. I sat all by myself in the dark sometimes feeling sorry for myself, hahaha. He finally got home on his b-day, thank goodness!
* While Dave was gone, I got locked out and had to call a friend [bless her heart] to bring her ladder so I could climb through my window. EMBARRASSING. Also, somebody knocked on my door in the middle of the night one night...yeah FREAKY! I slept with a knife and screwdriver beside me that night.
* I finally was able to surprise Dave for his b-day. I made him think he was getting a new golf club, but actually got him a 22. My dad and brother helped me out and got it for him up in Idaho. My dad covered it with car mats, half of a bottle top, and duct tape, so it was wrapped up all nice and crazy to throw him off. It was priceless! Thanks guys! :) They skyped me so I could see him opening it. Again...priceless. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID! I LOVE YOU! This year I made him a golf ball cake with a little putting green. I love making cakes.
* I'm in my last week of school for the summer and then I get 5 weeks off. YAY! One year down, one more to go.

That's the wrap! Have I mentioned that I love summer? So happy summer to everyone! Hope you all are healthy, happy, and that you had a great Fourth of July. How blessed we are to live in this wonderful country.

What the..?!

So whenever I cook a whole chicken, David loves to get the wishbone out so we can do the whole pull-on-the-ends-to-see-who's-wish-will-come-true. I'm embarrassed to say that even though it's just a silly little wishbone, my competitiveness tends to really come out when we do this. I have to win. I haven't kept track of my wishbone record, but lets just say it's not perfect. We pulled on a wishbone last week and I was determined to win. This is what happened (sorry about the blurry picture, we still haven't replaced our camera). IT WAS A STINKIN' TIE! I've never seen this, nor do I ever hope to see this again because it really ticked me off. David just laughed, so that made me even madder. Don't worry, I'm over it now. Just consider yourselves warned of this chance wishbone happening.
On a happier note, David played in his 1st ever golf scramble last week on a team with some buddies. He's just started to try his hand at golf in the last year. The other 2 wives and I went to the course and snuck some pictures at one of the holes. (That's him putting if you can't tell) We think they were embarrassed of us, so we made sure to honk at them when we left. :) Hehe! I was proud of him for doing it, even though he's not that comfortable with it. He got eaten alive by 'squitos, but he had a lot of fun. I just started my summer semester...bring it on! The sooner it starts, the sooner I'll be done. That's all for now.

Snow, Rain, Eggs, and Pure Happiness

Starting from the top. We had snow in Amarillo! It was like 3 weeks ago, but it was amazing! There was a blizzard all day and the whole city shut down.
It was hilarious! It woulda been just another day in Idaho, but here, it was shutdown time. The snow was gone the next day, but oh our Idaho roots came out while it lasted. Dave took us drift busting twice that day in the Jimmy. Oh it was great!

We finally got rain last weekend. We've really needed moisture, and we got a great rainstorm. Again, our Idaho roots came out.
Dave loves to go "puddle divin" in the car. We found a road that had was flooded over. The water was deep enough that it covered the curb so we couldn't see the curb. We put up a good rooster tail of H2O cruising that road...again, twice! Hehehe!

We got to dye Easter eggs this year with some professional egg dyers. Dave's friend Kaleb Snell from home was here visiting and we forced him to come with us. They had decorations to make the egg a bug. It was so cute! The pict shows my ladybug, Dave's mean bug, and Kaleb's green machine. Great fun.

Lastly the source of my pure happiness: I'M DONE WITH MY DOUBLE CLINICALS! I smile so big from saying it that my mouth hurts. HOORAH BABY! I finally have a bit of my life back. Phlebotomy is almost a done deal--clinicals and two finals down, one more final to go. David finally has a wife back. Pure happiness I tell ya, pure happiness!

10 Things I Love Tag

Here ya go Kels!! It was hard to choose only 10 things...I love lots and lots of things! :)
1- I love how David takes care of me: he works to put me through school (and helps me study); he gets breakfast ready for me and makes me lunches; he does cleaning chores he knows I hate to do; he tickles my back/rubs my neck everyday; he always tells me and shows me how he feels about me...I seriously could write for days about how he takes care of me. I love my David!
2- I love the feelings and warmth I get from going to church, from going to the temple, from doing service. I love the gospel!
3- I love nieces and nephews. I can love'em up, play with them, and get them all wound up. It's great! There's nothing like hearing my lit'l niece call me "Aunt Kabree" in her sweet little voice.
4- I love having such a close family. We're a very physical and loving family. I grew up knowing I was loved, and now that we're all grown up, we're just as close. Don't know what I'd do without them.
5- I love music. I've been so blessed to be able to create music. When my fingers get to dance on piano keys, something comes alive in me. I love it.
6- I love sports. I'd play something everyday if my body would allow it...I don't like getting older and having my body actually feel like it! Yuck!
7- I love Easter candy. Of all the holidays, I think I love Easter candy the most. Yes, we hoard it every April. But it's so worth it. I definitely have an Easter candy tooth!
8- I love a good rain storm. Something about it excites me, and there's nothing like the smell of rain.
9- I love hot chocolate. The way it can immediately warm me right up is so enticing! Some people are addicted to coffee...I'm addicted to hot chocolate. (don't tell my Bishop)
10- I love to cook. I like having a break every now and then, but I really prefer to cook for my David every night. (This probably stems from my love of eating. Really, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE to eat!)

Oh I'm soooo blessed! I have so many wonderful things in my life. It's always nice to stop and reflect on things every now and again. Thanks for the chance to do so, Kels!

Sad day at the Sterzer's

I'm depressed. Today is my last day of spring break. It feels like I dreamed my spring break. I can't believe it's already over, but I've LOVED having a week free of clinicals and school. We'd planned on going to Dallas to visit David's sis and her familia, but things didn't work out for us and we were unable to go. So other than a quick trip to Sweetwater, TX, we were home the whole week. I was busy, but busy with things I chose to do. And I actually saw David quite a bit, so oh baby I loved that!! I'll even admit it, I slept in, MORE THAN ONCE! HA! :) It was amazing.
The last month was a blur. I was a robot goin through the motions. School, clinicals, home for a few hours, more clinicals, volleyball, clinicals, sleepy time, school, clinicals, eat, clinicals, more volleyball, clinicals, etc. CRAZY!! I'm so glad I'll be done with my phlebotomy clinicals in 2 weeks. Poor David has had to suffer through the last month of getting a cooked dinner here and there from me and not having a wife home very often. (I used to cook him dinner every night when I was home and loved it!) So I'm sure he'll be glad when I'm done with phlebot as well. Here's a few high/low points for us last month:
*We hit the 1 year mark! We've officially been in Amarillo for a year. Craziness!
*The weather has been gorgeous! 70's, 80's GORGEOUS! I've had my sliding doors open.
*Between nuc med and phlebot, I was at clinicals 30-40 hrs a week. (poopy)
*David got our lit'l "garden" plowed up and ready for planting.
*I got food poisoning and was sick for a week. NO BUENO. I could only miss 1 day of clinicals, so I was miserable. Again, I say, NO BUENO!
*We got SNOW in Amarillo! It was hiney-flexing cold, but it was great to see some beautiful fluff falling.
*We trekked down to Sweetwater, TX for the famous Rattlesnake Roundup. I still can't believe I went. I hate snakes. Really hate them. But we went, and it was quite entertaining. They gather up truck loads of rattlers for population control, and have this big festival. They show the snakes, milk'em for venom, then butcher, skin them, and cook 'em up. It was insane (and stinky). Here's some picts for your enjoyment. And yes, a guy wrapped one around my shoulders. My armpits got soaked from nervous sweat in like 0.01 seconds.
*I'm in the primary now for church. Change is good, and I really do love kids.
*We're addicted to March Madness. It makes me laugh that we get so uptight and stressed out over our brackets. My family's doing a pool, so we're highly invested in the games. I hate that I'm doing horrible, but Dave's holding his own. :)
That's the wrap, other than spring break coming to a close (tear falling down my cheek). We hope March found everyone healthy and happy. Gotta love it when springtime is in the air!

Gotta Love Him!

For those of you who don't know, David's currently working for Micro Dairy Logic. He's a tech guy who goes around to dairies settin' up computer systems, makin' sure that certain techy stuff at the dairies are working properly. (I really have no idea how to explain what he does.) So anyhow, I've gotten used to him coming home splattered with cow patooey quite regularly, and smelling as such. He has about 20 air fresheners in his Micro van to try to help the cause. Well I thought I'd gotten used to the smell, and it didn't really bother me anymore. It was just normal. Last week, he got home and didn't jump right into the shower after he got home. I love when we finally both get home for the day. We usually sit and just kind of cuddle as we talk about our days. So I was snuggling up to the side of his head, and I was gettin' some odd wiffs of something. No big deal. Kept snuggling, and felt my nose run across something hard. Again, no big deal. Kept snuggling. I felt the hard stuff again and something fell off the side of his head. I finally looked and low and behold, it was poop! I have no idea how his HEAD got splattered with a nice slice of cow pie without him knowing, but apparently it did. We had a fun time after that picking the other remnants off the side of his head, and out of his hair. Needless to say, I made him go shower after that, and I'm definitely a more cautious snuggler. I LOVE MY POOPY DAVID! :)

We've Seen It All

Yep! David and I can truly rest easily tonight. We have truly seen it all, missionary style anyway. Missionaries always seem to be on their best behavior around people. Being kind, courteous, always serving others...polite. Well, I'm here to tell you that missionaries are very human, and it's not just David and I that slip up every now and then. :) I'm inserting a key at the bottom, so as not to offend anyone by this post. If you think you might be offended, please do not refer to the key at the bottom. I would now like to share with you why we have seen it all. At some point or another, as of this very night:

1-One or both of the missionaries have ****a**** their nose in front of us.
2-One or both of the missionaries have ****b**** food out accidentally on the table, in front of us.
3-One or both of the missionaries have ****c****/****d**** themselves in front of us (it's a guy thing I think).
4-One or both of the missionaries have ****e**** in front of us.
5-One or both of the missionaries have ****f**** while eating (without acknowleding it) in front of us.
6-One or both of the missionaries have fallen ****g**** in front of us.
7-One or both of the missionaries have ****h**** ****i**** ****j**** in front of us, first with their left hand, then finished up with their right.

Honorable Mentions:
-One or both of the missionaries have totally missed their plates and served their food onto the floor. (still haven't figured out how this one happened)
-One or both of the missionaries have taken a bite and had to spit their food into their hand because of laughing.


Yep. We've seen it all...that is, until we see something else to add to this great list! Try keeping a straight face when this stuff happens. Very difficult. They definitely keep us entertained, to say the least.

Catch-Up Time

Where in the heck did the last month and a half go? WHOA! I thought having 5 weeks off from school would be so relaxing. Well, not real sure where they went, but I'm on my last 6 days of freedom. Relaxing...sort of some days. Busy...YES! But I loved every minute of it! I could write for weeks about the last 6, but I'll just give the short run-down instead. Hope the holidays were wonderful for all of you!
-Had an amazing Thanksgiving break with David's sis Marnie and her cute family
-Ate a DELICIOUS homecooked Thanksgiving dinner
-Went to Fossil Rim with the Parker's and saw some awesome safari-style animals (no we did not get eaten)
-Went shopping with Marnie at a trendy part of Dallas...good thing I didn't have money to spend. I really could have gotten myself into trouble :)
-Went to the Dorsey's ugly Christmas sweater party= yummy food, great friends, lots of laughs (has anyone seen that picture of Marcus lately?)
-Got 2 migraines the week of finals
-Passed all my finals and got good grades :D YAY!
-Spent an entire week finishing Christmas projects with Lynsey and Zannah
-Took a road trip with Lynsey and Zannah to head for Idaho (I don't care how excited I was to go home to Idaho, I REALLY missed David!)
-Got a migraine while trying to drive straight thru. :(
-Made it to Idaho and surprised my grandma, aunt, and sister with my coming
-Spent the week before Christmas with my familia in good 'ole Paul. There's definitely NO PLACE LIKE HOME! Mom and Dad made the house absolutely beautiful.
-Got another migraine the day before David flew in. (notice a pattern?? NOT FUN)
-Got to see Becky's baby Tyson for the 1st time.
-DAVID MADE IT TO IDAHO! YEE-HAW! (Thanks Dorsey's)
-Christmas with the Dayton's was a very memorable one with ALL the family together...nothing like a Dayton family get-together!
-Went to a Jazz game with the entire family and saw them whip the Mavs. It was great fun!
-Made it to Rigby! We got to see Dave's bro Jared who was home from Massachusetts and we hadn't seen him in a year. :) YAY! It was great to see all the fam!
-Got to play with our cute nephews and did lots and lots of gaming.
-Sang at church in Rigby. (yeah I know. David and I don't sing. Good thing the rest of the Sterzer's have great voices!)
-Got to go with Kylee as she went through the temple for the 1st time :) What a wonderful day!
-Got to see Krista's baby Evie for the 1st time.
-Had a yummy New Year's Eve dinner
-Played the traditional farming game late into the night with the Dayton's (Dave won)(Again)
-Watched both of my grandma's play the Wii. It was hysterical!
-Went paintballing in Paul in the snow
-Got our camera stolen while we were paintballing in the snow :( It was a terrible way to end our vacation. I'm still crying, and yes, we lost all our picts from the last 2 months so please don't ask. Seriously, who gets their camera stolen in Paul, ID? Oh wait, that would be someone who has a tendency to have bad luck. Oh wait, thas David and me! Gotta love it.
-Brought Kylee along on our road trip back to Texas. Terrible roads= Got home @ 5:30 AM.
-My little brother Barrett got set apart as a missionary and he started his 2 year service mission this week...again, what a wonderful time/blessing for our family! We're so proud of him!
-How we spent last week: shopped, ate & ate, watched every season of "The Office", went to the Lubbock temple, ate some Texas BBQ, watched "Australia", got recertified in CPR, made taffy, made cards, made a triple batch of pumpkin seeds, attempted to make onesies, went to happy hour at Sonic, and we've drank hot cocoa from our new Cocomotion EVERY DAY since we've been home.

Yes, that still seemed like it took weeks for me to give the run-down, but there you have it. The play-by-play of the Sterzer's great adventures in TX and ID. My break is officially almost over. My sis goes home this weekend, and it's back to the books I go. Time definitely marches on! We have so much to be thankful for. We're especially grateful for all of our wonderful family and for our Saviour, Jesus Christ! What a special time to be able to celebrate His birth, the true reason for the season.
